Overview
In 1989, Cartier released a new model within the Tank series — the Américaine — which drew inspiration from the elongated and curvaceous design of the Cintrée. Originally conceived as a precious metal quartz watch, the Américaine represented a bolder and more modern Tank with thick brancards, an octagonal crown, and eventually a flat caseback. Cartier would go on to produce the watch in a variety of sizes and movements, yet the case design has remained largely unchanged over time.
The example here is an evolution of the first Tank Américaine reference 811905, now with an automatic movement and an intricate guilloché dial. The case feels substantial on the wrist, yet retains a high level of elegance thanks to its slim dial and broad curves. While the larger versions eventually drove the success of the Américaine, we firmly believe that the original midsize dimensions (22.5 mm x 41.4 mm) here represent the best form factor for this model.

Dial, Hands, & Crystal: The silver guilloché dial and blued sword hands are in pristine condition with no notable imperfections. The sapphire crystal is squeaky clean and scratch-free.

The yellow gold Cartier buckle has a few hairlines and a faint dent on the side, but retains its original shape overall. The brand engraving remains crisp, and the hallmark engravings show some softening but remain visible.
