Collector's Notes
Conceived in an era where Tudor watches were essentially Rolex cases fitted with ETA movements, the Prince Date+Day is the steel Day-Date that the crown never dared to make. The reference 76214 represents the final run of this model and was primarily sold in Eastern markets, thanks in part to Tudor’s discontinuation of sales in North America between 2004 and 2013. Examples have slowly filtered into the West, but remain largely scarce here.
Those who’ve hunted the 76214 know that the blue dial is the rarest and most desirable configuration. The color is a deep and rich tone, muted in the shadows but electric in the sunlight. Both I and @awristology — a fellow collector who also owns this reference — liken it to an Yves Klein blue. Squint hard enough and you might even mistake it for a white gold Lapis Lazuli.
Sure, it doesn’t have the king’s crown, but this little Prince is no less enjoyable to wear. At the end of the day, it has everything I love about the Day-Date (robust oyster case, dynamic fluted bezel, and yes, even that borderline hideous cyclops) in a form factor that can truly be worn anywhere and everywhere without worry. Big thank you to Dennis and Chris of Mayfair Watch for this wonderful example and an incredibly smooth transaction!
