Overview
Since 1932, Omega has served as the official timekeeper for the Olympic Games. As a result of this partnership, the brand often releases specialty watches to honor each successive Olympiad. During the summer of 2018, in advance of the 2020 games in Tokyo, Omega unveiled five limited edition Speedmasters — one for each color in the Olympic flag. These watches were only sold within the Japanese Domestic Market, and could be purchased individually (2,020 pieces each) or as a full set (55 sets).
Each of the Tokyo Speedmasters came fitted with the Omega caliber 1861, a solid caseback stamped with the 2020 Olympic logo, and a new bracelet configuration with a micro-adjustable button clasp. The black ring edition instantly became the star of the series with its classic panda design not seen in a Speedmaster Professional since the 2003 Mitsukoshi and 2004 Apollo XI 35th Anniversary models. While those watches are routinely listed in the five-figure range, the 2020 Olympic edition remains affordable by comparison, making it a great option for those looking to adventure beyond the traditional Speedmaster configuration.
