Overview
In the late 2000s Omega partnered once again with the Marui department store in Japan to produce a second generation of their special edition Speedmaster Reduced. Similar to the 3510.21 of the late 90s, the new reference 3539.31 came fitted with a cream-colored panda dial that now employed raised steel indices instead of printed lume plots. In addition, the hesalite crystal was swapped for a scratch-resistant box sapphire and the watch was given a unique OEM 3-piece bracelet with polished outer links and vertically-ridged center links. While production numbers of the first generation were speculated to be low—somewhere in the range of 2,000—the production of the second generation appears to be even lower with examples scarcely coming to market.
As with the first generation, additional dials and handsets were produced and made available to those with Omega parts accounts for servicing. While these 3539.31 parts are few and far between on the secondary market, one must be cautious when sourcing a second generation “Marui” to ensure it’s not a modded 3539.50. Finding an example like this with the original guarantee card stamped by the Marui Kokubunji store is the best way to ensure the watch is a true factory “Marui”.

The lugs are thick and razor sharp with excellent contouring and superb definition between brushed and polished surfaces. The tachymeter bezel is in fantastic condition with some small nicks present, mostly at the edges, but no major scratches or peeling. The case back shows moderate wear with hairlines, scuffs, and light scratches throughout. The hippocampus and serial number engravings remain crisp and legible.
Dial, Hands, & Crystal: The cream dial and black painted hands are in pristine condition with no notable imperfections and fully functioning Super-LuminNova. The sapphire crystal is squeaky clean and scratch-free.
Bracelet/Strap: The Omega stainless steel bracelet shows moderate wear with minimal stretch. The polished links contain hairlines, light scratches, and tiny scuffs throughout. The raised Omega logo on the clasp remains sharp and detailed.
